Reduction in Emissions and Improved Fuel Efficiency
First Applied to Hyundai’s All-New Palisade
On July 8, representatives from Hyundai-Kia Motors and GMB Korea gathered for a commemorative photo at the award ceremony held at GMB Korea's Changwon plant,
celebrating the company’s selection as an outstanding partner for quality in the initial mass production of the LX3 model.
GMB Korea Co., Ltd., a Changwon-based automotive parts specialist, has successfully localized the development of the Active Purge Pump—a key component for hybrid vehicles. This marks the first time such a component has been domestically developed in Korea.
The component was first applied to Hyundai’s new Palisade (LX3) model. Throughout the development process, GMB Korea was recognized for its achievements in multiple areas including quality improvement activities at each development stage, stabilization of initial mass production quality, and effective claim response capabilities, ultimately earning the designation as an Outstanding Partner for New Model Quality by Hyundai.
The domestically developed Active Purge Pump, designed for hybrid vehicles, helps reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency by directing evaporated fuel gas into the intake system for combustion—serving as a critical eco-friendly component.
CEO Song Byung-Young of GMB Korea stated,
“This localization project was made possible not only by our company’s technological capabilities, but also through active collaboration with Hyundai’s purchasing and engineering divisions. From establishing quality standards at each development phase to validating design integrity, comprehensive cooperation enabled us to successfully build a mass-production system for high-quality, customer-tailored parts.”
Notably, during the early development stage, GMB Korea utilized pilot vehicles provided by Hyundai’s purchasing division to verify real-vehicle compatibility in advance—ensuring a high level of mass-production quality. This effort is being cited as a prime example of trust-based cooperation with the client.
CEO Song further emphasized,
“Being selected as an outstanding partner for the LX3 goes beyond quality performance. It represents a model case of technological self-reliance achieved through close collaboration between Hyundai's various departments and its suppliers. Moving forward, we will continue to lead in developing high-quality, high-reliability components that enhance our customers’ global competitiveness.”
Since 1987, GMB Korea has supplied core engine and transmission components to Hyundai and Kia. Recently, the company has expanded its portfolio to include thermal management parts for electrified vehicles such as HEVs, PHEVs, FCEVs, and EVs—positioning itself as a leading global supplier of eco-friendly automotive components.
